Scroll

Since 1993, Axon has developed cutting-edge public safety technology to protect life, preserve truth and promote justice. We’ve made it a habit to break paradigms in law enforcement with boundary-pushing innovations and products.

Over the past three decades, our TASER energy weapons have progressed thanks in large part to our public safety partners who saw the potential to make the world a safer place with less-lethal technology. Scroll to explore how each new generation of TASER energy weapon has evolved to be ever more effective than its predecessor.

Axon's First Energy Weapon

The dream of a reliable, less-lethal energy weapon starts here. Axon, as the inventor and exclusive maker of TASER energy weapons, first developed the AIR TASER 34000 for the civilian market. Four years later, it was adopted by law enforcement agencies as a use-of-force option between a baton and pepper spray. This early model primarily stimulated the sensory nerves, causing pain but not always stopping a truly motivated individual.

TASER M26

True Neuromuscular Incapacitation (NMI)

Axon quickly realized that while the AIR TASER 34000 was meant to incapacitate a subject, it relied on pain compliance. Axon set out to improve stopping power, and launched the ADVANCED TASER M26 which made the breakthrough in effectiveness delivering an updated electrical waveform that caused neuromuscular incapacitation (NMI) by stimulating both the sensory nerves and the motor nerves, causing involuntary muscle contractions. Axon would continue to make improvements to its TASER energy weapons through the ability to induce NMI.

TASER X26

A compact energy weapon for the duty belt

TASER X26 featured a new Shaped Pulse electrical waveform that used less power than the M26 but increased NMI effectiveness. A key improvement from ADVANCED TASER M26  to TASER X26 was a 60% weight and size reduction, meaning the weapon could more easily be carried on a duty belt.

TASER X3

The First Multi-Cartridge Energy Weapon

TASER X3 was Axon’s first 3-cartridge energy weapon, which allowed users to deploy up to three cartridges before reloading. This fulfilled partner requests for multiple back-up deployments. TASER X3 also featured a new warning arc for de-escalation, smart cartridges, and full-color CID. While TASER X3’s large size made it obsolete, backup cartridges, Warning Arc and Smart Cartridges were well-received and became standard features in future TASER energy weapons.

TASER X2

The First Smart Energy Weapon

TASER X2 has most of the function of the TASER X3 but without the bulky form, allowing the energy weapon to be comfortably carried on a duty belt. TASER X2 once again features Cross-Connection technology, combining top and bottom probes from any active firing bay to form an effective NMI circuit. It also includes a built-in backup cartridge, warning arc, more accurate Smart Cartridges, and dual lasers for more improved probe placement. Significant advancements in TASER technology, including automatic and Signal Performance Power Magazine, Charge Metering and self diagnostics, make the X2 model a truly Smart Weapon.

Optimized for Close-Quarter and Stand-off Situations

TASER 7 provides enhanced reliability through two cartridge types optimized for close-quarter and stand-off ranges. It also introduced a host of advanced features including new Rapid Arc technology, wireless connection to the Axon network, and improved probes that fly straighter and faster with nearly double the kinetic energy to compress loose and hanging clothing. TASER 7 also features improved Adaptive Cross-Connect technology to maximize the effectiveness of probes deployed from separate cartridges.

TASER 10

A New Era in Less-Lethal Technology

TASER 10 was designed to significantly increase effectiveness by mitigating the primary causes of ineffective deployments, including misses, limited probe spreads, loose or thick clothing, and probes pulled free. The biggest change with TASER 10 is its single trigger pull, single probe deployment, which allows the user to individually place each probe at the desired target area to help improve effectiveness. With a maximum range of 45 feet and 10 probes, TASER 10 can be trusted to resolve dangerous situations not formerly addressed by TASER energy weapons.
